Former and Current Auks all had success this past week-end.
Former Auks took the stage at two NCAA tournaments and came away winners. In the Division 3 National Championship for Women’s Soccer former Auk Maddie Buckley ’11 lead the squad from William Smith College to the Championship. Maddie scored the opening goal in the 2-0 victory over Trinity College. She also lead the team with 26 points doing the Championship Season. If our research is correct Maddie becomes the second Archmere graduate to be part of a NCAA National Championship team, joining Blake Yule ’83 who was part of the Division 3 Football Championship Team at Hofstra in 1986. If anyone knows of anyone else please let us know.
Hoping to join the list is former Football Coach Joe Moglia. Joe, now the head coach at Coastal Carolina gained an upset victory over Montana in the NCAA Football Championship Sub-Division (former Division 1-AA). The win puts #11 Chanticleers into the National Quarter-Finals against #1 and defending national champion North Dakota State Bison on Saturday, December 14th. Good Luck to Joe and the Coastal team.
The current Auks began the Winter Sports Season on a winning note with all four Basketball Teams recording wins over Delmarva Christian on Friday 12/6. On the Men’s end Sean Deely ’14 lead all scores with 26 points in an 81-45 win. Men’s JV scored a 40-2 win. On the Women’s Side Kate Payne ’14 lead the way with 14 points in a 62-17 win, the JV posted a 41-11 victory.
The other week-end action saw the Wrestling Team at the Bulldog Invitational at Brandywine High School on Saturday 12/7. Lead by Meet Champions Matt McCurnin ’16 at 103 pounds and Adam Collins ’15 at 160 pounds the Auks place 5 wrestlers in the top 4 of their weight class. Sean Devine ’15 took 3rd at 182 pounds, and Mike Pinto’15 at 120 pounds and Jake Mottola ’16 at 132 both finished fourth.
