Winter Auks Move on to Post Season

After one of the most successful Winter Sports Seasons in school history, the Auks are having post season success.  Every team posted a winning record. For complete game/meet results for all teams go to

The Wrestling team posted their second consecutive winning season finishing with a 6-5 duel meet record.  The team had three members qualify for the Individual State Championship.  Matt McCurnin at 106, Adam Collins at 160 and Sean Devine at 189. McCurnin and Collins both made it to the consolation quarter finals.  Archmere also had John DiAnastasis, Justin Freck, Jake Mottola, Mike Pinto, and Femi Verissimo qualify as 1st alternates for the State Meet.  Everyone of these wrestlers, execpt Femi, will return next season.

Women’s Basketball finished the regular season with a 15-5 record, the Diamond State Conference Championship, and a return to the State Tournament after a one year absence.  The highlight of the regular season was a wins over both St. Mark’s 41-40 and St. Elizabeth’s 45-42.  This marked the first time in school history the team defeated these two Catholic rivals in the same season.  The Lady Auks took the #9 ranking in the Wilmington News Journal rankings and the #10 seed into the State Tournament, on Tuesday, February, 25 vs St. Andrew’s School Saints.  In a game played at the Moglia Field House, the Auks, up only one at half  came out on fire after the break to post a 52-35 win.  They move on to the second round on Thursday 2/27 at Smyrna High vs Smyrna Lady Eagles, game time 7:00. Men’s Basketball captured their first Diamond State Conference Championship in three years and an automatic bid to the State Tournament finishing the regular season with a 16-4 record.  Highlight of the season were two victories against Catholic rival St. Mark’s and a win over, at the time, #3 ranked St. Andrew’s School.  The Auks took a #7 ranking in the Wilmington News Journal and #12 seed into the opening round of States on February 26 at Moglia Field House vs #23 seeded Tower Hill School.  A sell out crowd was on had as the Auks came back from 11 points down with 5:50 to play to win 53-52 in overtime on a shot by Senior Tyler Burns with 3.9 seconds left in the extra period.
