Closing Out The Season With Some College News

The success and excitement of our Fall sports continued last week for our Auks with two college signings!

Senior Shannon Hogue made history on Wednesday, November 12, when she was the first Archmere student or graduate to sign a letter of intent to pursue collegiate Equestrian. Shannon will be a member of the Baylor University Equestrian team next fall.

Shannon has competed successfully in the junior hunters and big equitation divisions for several years. She placed third overall at the National Junior Hunter Championships East Coast 2014 and she qualified for The ASPCA Maclay Regionals and the USEF Pessoa Hunt Seat Medal Finals in 2014.  Since 2004, Shannon has trained with John Muldoon, owner operator of Reinbow’s End Farm in Malvern, PA. She has also received additional training assistance from Brian Feigus and Nanci Urban of Nevergreen Farm in Farmingdale, NJ.  As the next step in her education and training, Baylor is lucky to have her!

On the same day, senior Colleen Carney signed her letter of intent to join the University of Richmond’s cross country team, just days after being named DIAA Division II State Champion.

At the DIAA Cross Country State Championship Meet on Saturday, November 8th, Colleen earned first place with a time of 19:18 on the White Clay Creek 5K course. A member of the varsity cross country and outdoor track teams for the Auks since sophomore year, Colleen has received All-Conference and All-State recognition in every season. She was named to second team All-State cross country her junior year and first team All-State during her senior season. She was named All-County sophomore, junior, and senior year for cross country.  In track, she received All-County and All-State recognition during her junior season and was named a State Champion for the 1600m. She was also named team MVP during her sophomore and junior years.  We can’t wait to see what she will accomplish at the University of Richmond!

Congratulations to both Shannon and Colleen!

Auks Receive All State Honors

Archmere once again is the only Co-Ed High School in the State of Delaware, to have at least one athlete make All State in every DIAA sponsored fall sport.  St. Mark’s, St. Elizabeth’s, Tatnall, Tower Hill, Friends didn’t do it.  Neither did Concord, Brandywine, Mt. Pleasant, Middletown, Hodgson, or any other public school.  Only Archmere in Co-Ed schools has this honor.

The list is headed up by Senior Football Player Conner Furey.  Conner was First Team All-State on both Offense at Tackle and Defense at Linebacker. The other First Team All State Athlete was Senior Volleyball Player Alexa Spense.

Earning Second Team All State were Soccer Players Seniors George Tsaganos and Brian Canfield, Field Hockey Senior Caroline Rath, and Women’s Cross Country Runner Junior Colleen Carney.  Third team honors were earned by Men’s Senior Cross Country Runner Colton Takata and Senior Soccer Player Geff Merz.

Way to go AUKS! It was a great Fall Season.
