“New Wine”

Today’s Word:

New wine is poured into fresh wineskins. (Mark 2:22)

On This Date…

Today our nation commemorates the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 15, 1929. His father and maternal grandfather were pastors of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta.

Dr. King entered college at age 15 and resolved during his junior year to enter the ministry. Dr. King studied for three years at Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania, and was ordained in February 1948.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says, “New wine is poured into fresh wineskins.” Dr. King’s dream of racial harmony and freedom is the new wine of Jesus’ Gospel.
