Saint Norbert

On This Date…

On April 15, 1134, Easter Sunday, Saint Norbert celebrated his last Mass, sitting in a chair due to illness; he died on June 6, 1134 at age 54.

On April 15, 1865, Holy Saturday, President Abraham Lincoln died from a gunshot wound at age 56; he was called “a great martyr to liberty.”

On April 15, 1889, Monday of Holy Week, Father Damian DeVeuster died at Molokai, Hawaii, of leprosy at age 49; he had served the lepers for 16 years, always addressing them, “We lepers.”

At the Ring Mass tonight we heard these words: “God so loved the world that he gave His only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life”. Saint Norbert, President Lincoln, and Father Damian believed these words and lived them.
