Restless is the Heart Until it Comes to Rest in You

On This Date…

On August 28, 430 AD Saint Augustine died in North Africa at age 75; he wrote the Rule by which Norbertines live. He wrote in his Confessions, “Our hearts are restless, Lord, and they will never rest until they rest in You.”

On August 28, 1784 Father Junipero Serra died in Carmel, California at age 69; he became a Franciscan at age 17, and founded nine missions from San Diego to San Francisco, a distance of 514 miles. Pope Francis canonized Father Serra last September in Washington, DC.

On August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his “I have a dream” speech to a multi-racial audience in Washington, DC; many wept openly as Dr. King spoke of a time when the evils of prejudice and segregation would vanish.

On August 28, 2016 Father David Driesch, O.Praem. made his Solemn Profession as a Norbertine of Daylesford Abbey. At Communion we sang these words: “Restless is the heart until it comes to rest in you.”  Saint Augustine, Father Serra, Dr. King, and Father Driesch inspire us to rest in the Lord.
