1937_fr_hurley-185x300On September 25, 1963 Father Daniel Hurley, O.Praem., Archmere’s second headmaster, died in Wisconsin at age 67. He was ordained in 1928 and arrived at Archmere on August 13, 1932, Archmere’s second teacher; he taught English and Religion. He became headmaster in 1936; he resigned in November 1945 due to illness and returned to Wisconsin. He became a pastor and convent chaplain in Alverno, Wisconsin in 1947, serving there until his death.

On the night of September 14, 1932 he wrote to Abbot Bernard Pennings, O.Praem in Wisconsin: “Our new school opened today with the grand total of seventeen students. … You have seen (the school) and know we have a beautiful spot here if we can hold it. … We shall have lots of courage and trust in God’s goodness.” God was good in sending Father Hurley to Archmere – “a beautiful spot.”
