See the Light of Christ

Today’s Word:

“No one lights a lamp and conceals it under a bed (but) … on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light” (Luke 8:16)

On This Date..

On September 22, 1934, Father Basil Reuss, O.Praem., was ordained a priest in the Patio Chapel at Archmere, the first Norbertine ordained on the east coast; he celebrated his First Mass the next day at his home parish in Wilkinsburg, PA, a town adjacent to Pittsburgh. Father Reuss was a lawyer before joining the Norbertines at age 26.

On September 22, 1940, Father William Millay, O.Praem., died in Philadelphia, the first Norbertine to die on the east coast. He was ordained in 1910, was rector of Saint Norbert College (1913-1927) and pastor in Vancouver, British Columbia, before his assignment to Southeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia; the Alumni Association of Southeast Catholic/Bishop Neumann High School is called The Millay Club.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says, “No one lights a lamp and conceals it under a bed (but) … on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light”. Fathers Reuss and Millay let others see the light of Christ, a good task for Autumn which begins tonight at 10:29 PM, EDT.
