Trust in the Lord and Do Good

Today’s Word:

“Trust in the Lord and do good” (Psalm 37:3)

On This Date…

On January 27, 1540 Saint Angela Merici died in Italy at age 70. She was orphaned at an early age. She was moved by the poverty and ignorance of poor girls and at age 65 organized a group of 28 women into a religious community – the Ursulines – who did not wear a traditional religious habit, take traditional vows or live in convents. Locally, the Ursulines founded Ursuline Academy in 1893; the school motto is “Serviam” (“that I might serve”).

On January 27, 1947 Walter Ziegler ’40 and Thomas Filbrandt ’42, both Archmere graduates and Norbertine seminarians, were killed in a car crash in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on their way to teach at Central Catholic High School. Sitting between them in the back seat was Robert Sliben who was ordained in 1949 and who taught at Archmere from 1949 to 1990.

On January 27, 2017 nine Archmere students and two faculty – Mr. Mengers and Ms, Hudson – went to Washington, DC for the Annual March for Life. At today’s Mass in school we prayed, “Trust in the Lord and do good” – inspiring us to be “prepared for every good work.”
