At the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. (Luke 1:44)
On This Date…
On August 15, 1967, Cardinal John Krol, Archbishop of Philadelphia, dedicated the Church of the Assumption at Daylesford Abbey. Archmere Kairos retreatants assemble in the abbey church several times during each Kairos retreat.
On August 15, 2013 – today – over 200 athletes, coaches, and parents assembled in Archmere’s theatre to celebrate Mass for the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven. We do not know the actual date of her death (or her “falling asleep”), but we observe it today.
Before Mass, Principal Mr. John Jordan ’80 welcomed us, especially the transfer students and the incoming members of the Class of 2017. Mr. Jordan also introduced Archmere’s new Campus Minister, Mr. William Gabriel.
In today’s Gospel, Elizabeth says to her cousin Mary, “At the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.”
As we near the start of a new school year, may what we say to each other cause joy.
