Archmere Academy, Serafin String Quartet, And The Music School of Delaware Team Up To Offer New After School String Ensemble Program – June 4, 2014

Archmere Academy is pleased to announce a new partnership with The Music School of Delaware, which includes Music School faculty and the Serafin String Quartet (the University of Delaware’s String Quartet in Residence) as part of UD’s outreach program. The partnership will offer Archmere students the opportunity to participate in a unique after school String Ensemble program, beginning this coming fall. This partnership builds on Archmere’s existing String Ensemble program, initiated a year ago.

Archmere To Implement Tech “Refresh” Of Its 1:1 Laptop Program For Next Fall – May 27, 2014

Archmere Academy is pleased to announce that it will be issuing brand new 13-inch MacBook Airs to all returning and incoming students for the start of the 2014-15 school year. Archmere launched the 1:1 Laptop Program in fall of 2011, issuing at the time, new 13-inch MacBook Pro laptops.

Two Archmere Seniors Named National Merit Scholars; 16 Juniors To Be Recognized Next Fall – May 15, 2014

Classmates Brian Zhang ’14 and Justine Zhang ’14 have been named 2014 National Merit Scholars, and each is a recipient of a $2500 National Merit Scholarship. In addition, 16 rising seniors (current juniors) will receive recognition in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program next fall, with the chance to be named National Merit semifinalists.

Archmere Senior Commits To Play Soccer For University of Scranton – May 15, 2014

Senior Allison Sullivan ’14 will attend the University of Scranton next fall, where she has committed to play soccer for the Lady Royals.

A formidable defensive midfielder, Allison has been a four-year starter for the Lady Auks’ Varsity soccer team. She was selected to First Team All State as a junior and Second Team All State as a sophomore.

Archmere Senior Commits To Play Basketball And Lacrosse For Rochester Institute of Technology – May 14, 2014

Senior Amanda Olsen ’14 has committed to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) to play both basketball and lacrosse next year.

A three-sport athlete while at Archmere, Amanda has earned 11 varsity letters for basketball, lacrosse, and volleyball. She has received All Conference recognition for volleyball, basketball and lacrosse, and All State recognition for basketball and lacrosse. Amanda has also coached CYO youth volleyball, basketball and lacrosse teams for the past four years.

Archmere Students Receive National Art Awards – March 21, 2014

Archmere sophomore John Vaile ‘16 is the recipient of the 2014 distinguished national American Visions Award for his sculpture titled “The Animal Within,” which he created for a class assignment. The American Visions Awards recognize the top individual work of art from each regional competition of the Scholarship Arts Award Scholarship Program.

Fellow Archmere artist and sophomore Claire Moosberg ‘16 also received national recognition for her acrylic painting titled “Cannoli Craze” earning a silver medal in the competition. The painting also received a Gold Key in the regional competition in Delaware.

Archmere Academy 7th Annual Fine Arts Festival To Honor The Late Life Magazine Photographer, Bill Eppridge ’55 – March 14, 2014

On Saturday, March 22, 2013, Archmere Academy will celebrate its seventh annual Fine Arts Festival, this time with a unique twist. As always, the event will feature artwork from the school’s variously talented students enrolled in its award-winning Fine Arts Program, but this year the school will also pay special tribute to the late Bill Eppridge, a graduate from the class of 1955 and one of the most accomplished photographers and photojournalists of the twentieth century.

Archmere Senior Volleyball Player Commits To McDaniel College – February 27, 2014

Archmere senior and Wilmington native Sarah Donnelly ’14 has committed to play the position of setter for the McDaniel College volleyball team next fall. Sarah has been awarded a four-year academic scholarship.

Archmere Presents 2014 Winter Musical: Anything Goes – February 19, 2014

Archmere Academy Dramatics presents Cole Porter’s ocean-liner love story Anything Goes, opening Thursday, February 27, with two additional performances Friday, February 28, and Saturday, March 1, in the Performing Arts Center. All performances begin at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door, and are $5 for students/staff (any school) and senior citizens; $10 for general admission.

Archmere To Host Annual Garage & Estate Sale March 22 – February 19, 2014

On Saturday, March 22, 2014, the Moglia Fieldhouse on Archmere Academy’s campus will be overflowing with garage sale treasures – from estate collections and housewares, to collectibles, art work, books, toys, and electronics – from sporting equipment, outdoor toys and bicycles, to men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes, jewelry and more! Archmere Instrumentalist Named To University of Pennsylvania Honor Band – February 12, 2014

Archmere freshman Griffin Anderson ’17 was recently selected to represent Archmere Academy and perform with the invitation-only University of Pennsylvania Honor Band at two events in the Philadelphia region. Griffin, who plays trumpet for the Archmere Concert Band and Stage Band, joined over seventy-five students from PA, NJ, DE, and NY under the direction of Dr. Kushol Gupta, and was the only representative from a Delaware school to receive this recognition in 2014.

Archmere Senior Football Captain Commits To Play For Yale – February 5, 2014

Archmere senior and Wilmington native Conor Furey ’14 has signed a letter of intent to play tight end for the Yale University football team next fall. The two-time football captain has played four years lettered on Archmere’s varsity team as defensive end, linebacker, offensive tackle, and tight end. Conor has helped lead the Auks into the playoffs three of four years, most notably finishing the 2010 season as Delaware State Championship Runner-up. Over his final two seasons, Conor recorded more than 200 tackles and six sacks for Archmere. Most recently, he was named to the 2013 Chesapeake Bowl.

Archmere To Host “A Mardis Gras Celebration” Featuring The Barbone Street Jazz Band – January 30, 2014

Archmere Academy’s Friends of The Patio will host the second installment of its 2014 Helena Springer Green Raskob Concert Series, celebrating Mardi Gras in true New Orleans style, Sunday, March 2, 2014, at 3 p.m. in The Patio. The ticketed event is open to the public, and features Philadelphia’s premier six-piece New Orleans jazz and swing band The Barbone Street Jazz Band. A Mardi Gras themed reception will follow the concert.

Archmere Students Win Verizon App Design Contest – January 27, 2014
An app imagined by a team of students from Archmere Academy won “Best in State” in the Verizon Innovative App Challenge. Led by Archmere Computer Science teacher Jared Campbell, this team of students, comprised of Christian Kraft ’15, Gregory McCord ’16, Joseph Spall ’16, Andrew Hurst ’15 and Nicholas McIntyre ’15, developed the concept for a mobile application they call coNextGen, which helps individuals locate family members and friends in the event of a natural disaster.
